Dr. Draughn graduated Cum Laude from Millsaps College in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology. He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Mississippi in 1987. Dr. Draughn completed his surgical residency training from 1988-1993 at Louisiana State University in Shreveport, Louisiana, becoming the Chief Resident of General Surgery in 1992. He scored in the top 10% in the nation on his Surgical Boards.

Dr. Draughn holds two certifications from medical boards. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Surgery and a Diplomat of the American Board of Venous and Lymphatic Medicine. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

One of the things he enjoys most is educating his patients.

He trained as a General Surgeon and has been performing General, Laparoscopic, Vascular and Thoracic surgery in private practice since 1993. In 2006, he focused his practice exclusively on venous disorders.

Continuing Medical Education

Dr Draughn routinely attends annual meetings at the American College of Phlebology, The American Venous forum, and the International Vein Congress. He is involved in ongoing research in venous disease, has published papers on the research and presented at National meetings.


Dr Draughn feels there is a huge misconception about varicose veins. Most people think treatment is purely cosmetic. He finds that 95% of his patient’s treatments are considered “medically necessary” by insurance company criteria. He enjoys keeping his local community informed and updated by making presentations to local physicians, PA’s, Nurse practitioners, Nurses, and any group that wants to know more including companies that want to improve the health of their employees, church groups, YMCA, Health Fairs, and even shows like the Southern Women’s Show.

Dr. Draughn has been married for over 25 years. His wife has her Bachelor’s Degree in Science and Nursing. She was an Intensive Care Nurse for 10 years. She is now is the marketing director for the practice. They are the proud parents of a son who graduated from Appalachian State University and a daughter graduating from the University of Alabama.

Dr. Draughn enjoys boating, water skiing, wake surfing, scuba diving, sailing, and the beach, especially visiting the islands of the Caribbean. He likes Genealogy and has traced the Draughn name back to 1696 in North Carolina.
